This day was amazing. This is one of those days I'll cherish forever.
Anyway, on to my story.
I woke up at like 7:06, as shown by the alarm in my cellphone, other cellphone, and iPhone. It was an absolute plethora of sounds. I actually really like the sound of Joe Satriani playing Flight of the Bumblebee live waking me up in the morning now. Back to my story.
I was called and texted by my bandmates Thad, Gerard, and Aaron, about where I was, and stuff like that. I left the house at around 8:45, and I got to Waltermart at 9-something. Met my friends there, and we made our way to Don Bosco. We were met inside the school by Judge, the event organizer, and we started screening for the Battle. We played through one of the songs we were gonna play later, then we were told to stop after the first song. Nakapasok na raw kami. So, understandably, we were overjoyed, and then decided to go back to Makati Science. We waited outside the school gate for a while, then got in.
There, we saw that most of the events were done already. We then went to our respective classrooms, and when I got to my classroom, I saw that there was no food for us to eat, and my classmates were laughing and joking. I thought na 'wala naman 'ata kaming mapapala dito,' so I decided to go to my bandmate Gerard, in I-Dalton. I was followed by Thadeus, my other bandmate, and Raven, my classmate. We got to I-Dalton, and we saw that there was a lot of food there. We treated ourselves to a full meal there, and ate it. We were still hungry though, so we went to II-Mendel. We got ourselves food, with me getting a single piece of barbecue, and went on our way. We got to I-Dalton again, then I-Pascal, then I-Archimedes, then I-Aristotle, then IV-Newton. We had a blast, and we were decisively full.
Then, the whole band (Me, Thad, Gerard, and Aaron), and Casey, a friend of mine, were brought by my parents to Don Bosco, where we stayed again, at first watching DA (another friend of ours) and Gerard absolutely pwn everyone with their mad guitar hero skills. Then after that, we stayed in this airconditioned room for a few hours, relaxing, chilling, and talking, and stuff like that. Then our friends Ana, Lora, and Innah called Casey, and said they were at Waltermart, waiting for us. We then fetched them at like, 3:35, then we spent a few minutes waiting for Ana and Lora to pick shirts to wear, which to my joy were The Beatles shirts, just like what I would be wearing, and what DA was wearing. Damn, it was a Beatles convention when we all met. :))
We were beforehand told to pick a number from the box, which to our shock was #4. We were the last band to be playing. Nevertheless, we were nervous as hell, and had tense moments.
Anyway, we watched other bands perform, and we got to judge them ourselves while they played. First up was a Don Bosco Band, then a St. Paul Band, then the other Makati Science band, Mailbox, who had beaten us at the Battle of the Bands at our own school. Then, we got to the stage. It was intense. I saw the number of people, and I was dumbfounded. Ang dami.
We had decided beforehand that instead of the 3 songs we had practiced, we would play just 2, since all of the other bands had done only 2. Besides, the 3rd song was hard on Thad's vocal cords, and we might have failed there.
Anyway. We got to the stage, and started our stay there. We started with a short intro, (Gerard was supposed to have a drum solo there, but time did not permit.) followed by a performance of 'Knocking on Heaven's Door,' as interpreted by us. We, in hindsight, actually did a good job there. (Because people told us so.) We then launched into 'Woman,' originally by Wolfmother, and had a good performance, I guess. (We had quite a few screwups in this song.) Then we walked off of the stage, not sure whether we had done a good job.
As we went back to our band room, we were met by our friends, who said we were amazing. Haha. We then rested for a while, then watched the guest bands perform. We saw AJKA, Imago, Session Road, Midsummer, and Gracenote. They were all good. Then, as most of the people started to leave, there was an awarding. We were awarded the Best Guitarist award (actually Thad was called to stage, since we didn't really clarify who was playing Lead, and who was playing Rhythm.) Then, our band won 1st runner-up, which was absolutely thrilling. :D
My parents and I left Don Bosco, and headed for a hospital. There, I was met with the sight of one of my Lolas, critical. I felt pity. We stayed there for an hour, then headed home.
I now write this blog post, to commemorate this amazing day.
